| And then he walked along the edge of the Circle
This is the place where we will post your stories about the Green's Playhouse, The Glasgow Apollo and Satelitte City (The Wee Apollo). As it develops we will break the stories up into sections such as Myths, Gigs I missed, Meeting the Bands, Where are they now etc. No story too trivial and we will only edit out bad language!
New Forum structure on Apollomemories soon.

| I saw The Stones in 1982 (although I could swear it was a Friday) and they are still
easily the best band I have ever seen Live. Unbelievably superb....Mick Jagger
wearing a Scotland top would you believe. Scotland were playing England that weekend
and seconds before the Stones took to the stage The England Team (I can remember Viv
Anderson and Trevor Brooking leading them) walked out one of the side doors to take
their seats in the stalls. They were quickly recognised and were about to be lynched
when the lights dimmed and the Stones appeared on the stage. They were very lucky
believe me.
I also remeber the audience being a mixture of old hippies,
young punks and all sorts in between. About four rows in front of us were about
half a dozen couples all done up in ball gowns and dicky bows.
A great
and unrepeatable night.

| A wis at this. It was all top seekret, so the tickets were printed with the "The
Concert" printed with where the bands name would be. It was only announced days
before the event and of course the tickets were snapped up. I only got a pair of
tickets because I worked in the Royal Bank in Renfield Street and we were The
Apollo's bank, so they handed us in some tickets and I was licky enough to get
2. To be honest I don't remember the detail. I think I was struck more by how
significant it was to see The Stones at such a relatively intimate gig. (Brought home
weeks later when I saw them from half a mile away in Round??? Park Leeds). I was
young. and the Stones were more a reputation than a great love to me. The biggest
impression on me that night was the theatricals of Mick Jagger. To be honest, I
didn't know what to make of him. I'm sure at one point he appeared singing in one of
the boxes. He seemed like this huge elastic performer who made the Apollo seem so
small. He had so much energy he didn't just cover the whole stage he covered every
inch of the hall, such was his energy.

| Yes I remembern it like it was yesterday. I was about 15 rows from the front. and the
England team were two behind me all suited and booted up for the night. I was running
around with the Calton Tongs (local gang from East end of Glasgow) I was only
16 @ the time. I was with 2 mates but our bottles crashed when we realised the row in
front of us was taken up by about a dozen of the Cumbie, our rival mob from the
Southside of the city. It turned out they were only out for a good time like
ourselves and once I passed them some joints they were cool lol. Well Mick ran on
stage with his Scotland top on and his american football trouser thingys and the
place erupted. I think it was the first time I had seen a cabless mic, and he ran
around and in and out of all the boxes at the side. I saw them again twice at Hapden
and St James park at the Urban Jungle tours, but nothing like that night in 82 at the
Apollo. Man I miss that place badly.

| I saw the Stones at the Apollo twice, once in 1971 & again in 1973, I still have the
ticket stubbs !! First time the Groundhogs were support and next time Billy Preston
was supporting and playing with the Stones. I remeber not being able to talk about
the gig on the way home, it had been so loud I was almost deaf!! But it was F******
Amazing , only way to describe it.

| Got my ticket stub for "THE CONCERT" 27.05.82. Limited to 2 per person. By
time I got there it was upper circle, but was row B 25. Sat behind a sound crew doing
a recording, brilliant view. Remember Mick Jagger going off stage and turing up in
one of the boxes to side, girls in the box didn't realise Jagger was behind them for
a few seconds. Not sure but think some of the England footie squad were there as it
was a few days before the home internationls....could be wrong there. My brother
never forgave me for not getting him a ticket.

| Saw them in 1971, 73 and 76. 71 they were superb, so tight, great sound, at their
peak but they played for less than hour. Forty minutes is what I remember although
somebody else said it was a bit longer but that's what I remember. We were two or
three rows from the front and my mate caught the basket Mick threw into the crowd
then had a finger nail torn out as somebody tried to rip it from his hand. Nice. I'd
seen Deep Purple the previous Friday and they were so much better that loads of the
crowd were shouting for them at the end. 73 we were again close to the front but
the sound was the worst ever from a major band. An unbelievably loud wall of fuzz and
feedback. Shocking from a band like them. I've got some bootlegs from that tour so I
know how well they were playing then but I could barely make out a single tune. So
disappointing. 76 we were in the balcony, they played well, sound was great but
our musical tastes were diverging by that time so that's the last time I saw them.
